Hello,
I’m building our company portal using FW5 Pro, most of my links are internal links to files that live on the server, one of those links is to a tutorial web site i created (internal as well) the problem is that when i enter the link path, FW adds a %20 for the space, this does not effecting files, but when the path is to anotherweb page this does not work!
how can i get rid of this %20?
this is the link i want:
FPAS01Company3.0 Cad DocumentsFPA Revit LibraryRevit Centralindex-1.html
This is the link i get:
fpas01Company3.0%20Cad%20DocumentsFPA%20Revit%20LibraryRevit%20Centralindex-1.html
I don’t know if this is best practise or not but I find it best, with
files that are to be referenced on the web, to either remove spaces
altogether, or replace them with an underscore. Otherwise Freeway,
and I think most web programmes, will add the %20 to make it into a
browser readable URL. In your case maybe you can duplicate the
folders and rename them to eliminate the spaces, or just eliminate
the spaces so that the original file path is “clean” - depends on
whether you have referenced them elsewhere I suppose…
Cheers
Pete

That’s how I do it. Duplicate the files for web use and change the spaces to underscores. You might also want to think of a prefix for the files you put online. So if you’re company was like “eldados” you could put like “ELD-name_of_the_file.extension” Keeps things organized and neat, plus it makes it easier for people getting those files to know where they came from, because it can get crazy.
You don’t have to duplicate the folder to rename it, just alt-click the folder name, and rename it.
Personally I would give a folder a single name wherever possible. It keep the URL short and neat and less prone to mistakes if someone has to type it in.

thank you all for the replies, renaming the folders is not an option I’m afraid… these are folders on our server with paths and links everywhere.
is there a way to remove the %20?
the strange thing is that it works for a word doc or a PDF but not to the index.html %|
I don’t understand, Is this a site created in Freeway folders and all?
If your Freeway files created the %20 spaces in folder names when you built the site, then changing the Freeway file and removing the spacing in Freeway and uploading again will remove them, rename the folders and maintain all your links in the site as well.
Are you saying you created the folders manually on the server? If you start changing folder names on the server your risk your files not linking correctly.

No mate
the web site is a portal to the firm’s documents living on the server.
I also created another learning site for the software we use and it’s hosted locally.
think might be easier to move this site right under /
I need FW to be more flexible when it comes to locally hosted sites, integrating CMS built in…

I only suggested duplication as a way to avoid having further confusion. I read the OP to mean that the files were already in use on the server but not accessed through the web. Having renamed duplicates would allow one lot to be used via Freeway and the web and the originals to be left for their existing use. Maybe I’m wrong…
