A Question for Walt and Keith

Hi Walt and/or Keith,

I recently posted a wanted search for a Freeway “Expert Guru”, and a response came back with recommendations for you both.

Here’s my idea:

So that I can focus more on design (or in the event I take on more than a few website projects a month) I have been considering using html xhtml css coders. The problem is that I wouldn’t be able to use Freeway to tweak pages, or create a simple page based on another page, so I would have to rely on the coders (probably Dreamweaver users) for everything.

I was wondering if there is Freeway “expert” who would be able to provide services for a workflow based on the two scenarios below, and what the rate might be:

SCENARIO ONE:

I provide a design layout (PDF or jpeg).
Freeway guru expert creates a Freeway site based on layout
I would be able edit the file (revisions, additions)
The Freeway guru, if necessary, reviews the site or makes changes.
Freeway guru could make changes in future (hourly rate for changes?)

SCENARIO TWO:

I have the basic layout of the site already created in Freeway Pro.
Freeway guru checks it over to make sure that it is using good html/css practices, adjust the file (if necessary) and applies various actions/effects/etc. (Basically, makes sure it’s in “tip-top”’ shape.)
Freeway guru could make changes in future (hourly rate for changes?)
Basically, what I’m looking for is to still retain some control of the site for design purposes, but without all the stress of creating a “perfect” site (good/css practice, keeping up-to-date on all the actions, effects, etc. and how to use them).

Here’s an example of a recent site I designed and created in Freeway Pro 5: www.fonsecadesign.com/IML08/.

If the next site takes me as long as it did for this site, I’m operating at a -100% profitability. Yikes!

Where (in the world) are you located? You might want to try to get in
touch with someone who could meet with you in person. I fear that
while you could get some utility out of the workflow you suggest, in
the end, it might not do as well for you as if you could get some in-
person training. I’m a firm believer in the “teach a person to fish”
approach, rather than doling out herring…

Hi Walter,

I’m located in Scottsdale, Arizona. Yes, personal training is nice, but now days long-distance learning works well.
I’m not sure if you had an opportunity to look at the site I am working on –– http://www.fonsecadesign.com/iml2008/default.php.
I’ve heard that it looks pretty good. I’m sure if you look at the code you will see things that you would have approached differently (and better). I want to take it to the next level… or to the top.

For example, one of the problems I am experiencing is printing pages. My client is printing from internet explorer and navigator (windows). Some of the pages print weird – meaning the page stops in the middle and then starts on the next page, or what would easily fit on a page and a half, prints out all messed up on four pages. I know browsers and printers act differently, but this is obviously a css or layout issue. I’ve tried the layout arrangement four different ways already based on suggestions.

For this site, my needs require looking at the site and adjusting/changing. For other sites, I want to give someone the pdf designs and have them build it in Freeway. In an urgent need, I could go into the site and make editorial … or photo changes.

There are quite a few online companies that do this for html, and xtml, but not with the Freeway flexibility.

I hope this explains what I am looking for better:)

I’m flattered, but the fact that I didn’t manage to read this until
Wednesday morning shows how little time I would be able to give to
this right now. :frowning:

Also, I’m in London - rather a long way from Arizona in time zones as
well as physical distance!

I agree entirely with Walter about the importance of learning to do
this yourself, but I understand how dificult this can be to get
going. Especially when you already have lots of other stuff to get on
with!

It won’t, trust me. You’ll have learned a huge amount just by doing
that site, so if you had to do it again it would definitely go much
faster.
