Adding guestbooks

Good evening everybody,

I have created a site for my upcoming wedding and I want to add a guest book to the page here: http://www.sj-creative.co.uk/fionaandsimonswedding/guestbook.html

I have downloaded the PHP script from here: http://www.phpjunkyard.com/php-guestbook-script.php which was suggested in a previous post on FreewayTalk.

What would be the best way of adding this script to the page and ensure that I can style it to my page?

I have heard someone mention using an iFrame, but can’t seem to find the action in Freeway, do I need to download it from somewhere?

Is there a better way of doing this?

If you could give me some advice on this that would be great, as you can tell I’m learning as I go with this bit.

Thanks

Simon

Simon, congrats with the upcoming wedding.

You can change some of the images and the CSS in the script that you have downloaded. Look for templates/default/images. Open the images in Pshop and change them to suit, remember to keep them the same size and keep the file names the same. There is also a CSS file in the template folder where you can change things like fonts, colors, padding, spacing etc.

The iFrame action is under the Insert menu > Action Item > iFrame

Cheers, Marcel

Thanks Marcel,

I’ll look in to the style of it this weekend and see how I go.

I have gone to Insert > Action Item > … but I have no Action for iFrame. Do I need to install it from somewhere else first, or should it be pre-loaded? I am using Freeway 5.4.2

Found it in ActionsForge! I will now play around with it :slight_smile:

Me again …

I’ve got it working:
http://www.sj-creative.co.uk/fionaandsimonswedding/guestbook2.html

But it keeps adding the scroll bar to view the right hand part of the guestbook.

I can’t find the part of the php that is setting the width of the guestbook, I want it to fit the iFrame which is 500px.

Can anyone see what part of the php I need to change?

Looks like you’ve got this sorted Simon. I was going to mention that
your H1 heading had a 30px left margin which was causing the page to
scroll to the right but it’s now gone so I guess you fixed it.
The site is looking great.
Regards,
Tim.

Thanks Tim,

It seems to be getting there. I have two little things that are bugging me right now though, I don’t suppose you’d know how to sort them?

  1. I can’t seem to get the two links for viewing and signing the guestbook to be centered in the iFrame.

  2. When you go to sign the guestbook, the actual box that comes up still requires you to scroll to the right. DO you know how I can fit this to the box size?

Please feel free to add test posts, this actual page isn’t really live yet.

Thanks

Simon

    In the CSS file;
    http://www.sj-creative.co.uk/gbook/templates/default/style.css
    change the style for gbook_top_links to;
    #gbook_top_links { height:50px; margin-left:0px; margin-top:10px; text-
    align:center; }

    Change the text length of each of the 3 input fields in the form from
    45 to 40;

    Again, it looks like you may have fixed this as well! :slight_smile:
