Hello,
I’m creating a site for a client who would like to have some directories of the site password protected. The pages that will be password protected are also the pages that he would like a search function. I’ve used Atozm search on other sites and it works nicely, but I’m not sure if it will work on password protected sites. Ages ago I used FrontPage on a PC which had a built in search function, but it looks like that’s not an option with FW.
Thanks,
Rich Gannon
Oh sorry, if I confused you. I’ve already got the directories password protected…just wondering if search bot like Atozm will be able to get into a password protected area and index it.
An external search system would need access to your protected areas
in order to index them, which would mean it would need to log in
using a password.
I don’t think this is going to be possible except with a server-side
facility. There are a number of ways to attack this, but I would
start with your hosting provider. See if they have a search engine
already installed. There are a number of free engines you can use,
but they vary wildly with respect to ease of configuration and
performance.
