Adsense / Nonsense

I’m in the process of designing a personal site for my bicycle trip around the world. I’ve just signed up for Adsense and put the code into my pages.

My site is www.acousticmotorbike.com and Adsense is putting ads for motorbikes instead of bicycle related ones. I’ve changed the text on the index page to include the word bicycle as often as possible (without trying to overdo it), but I’m still getting the ads for motorbike related stuff.

Is it possible to add hidden tags on the page to attract bicycle ads?

Thanks
Aidan

Maybe try taking ‘Motorbike’ out of the copyright text, Google is
probably picking this up…

Hope this helps.

As well as that, try this:

What is section targeting and how do I implement it?

Section targeting allows you to suggest sections of your text and
HTML content that you’d like us to emphasize or downplay when
matching ads to your site’s content. By providing us with your
suggestions, you can assist us in improving your ad targeting. We
recommend that only those familiar with HTML attempt to implement
section targeting.

To implement section targeting, you’ll need to add a set of special
HTML comment tags to your code. These tags will mark the beginning
and end of whichever section(s) you’d like to emphasize or
de-emphasize for ad targeting.

(etc…)

I imagine that some kind and Action-savvy soul could put together an
action that wraps the necessary tags around the page and nominated
HTML blocks, but for now you can do that by dropping markup items
into the start and end of sections of text and filling those items
with the appropriate start and end tags.

Cheers K, I’ll give that a go.

Emphasize important content with section targeting

Google AdSense ads are automatically targeted to the content of your
webpage, but sometimes you may want to emphasize or downplay certain
sections of your page – for example, you may want to emphasize the
first paragraph of your article or ignore your menu bar. With section
targeting, you can help us determine what parts of your content are
important so that your site can show more targeted ads. Our crawlers
will still look at your entire website, but your suggestions will
assist us in improving your ad targeting.

Section targeting might be a good fit for your site if:

  1. You’re familiar with HTML and are comfortable adding HTML
    tags to your source code.
  2. You want to help guide the crawlers to specific section(s) of
    your page.
  3. The sections you want to target contain a significant amount
of text (a large enough percentage of your overall content to help
    instruct our crawlers).

You can use section targeting to make suggestions about as many
sections of a page as you like. However, it may take up to 1-2 weeks
before you start to see changes to your ad targeting. Also, because
we want to make sure your ads are as effective as possible, our
technology detects whether section targeting will improve your
results and implements automatically only if you’ll earn more revenue.

To get started with section targeting, review the full instructions
in our Help Center.

Tip for proper implementation: Include a significant amount of
content within the section targeting tags; including insufficient
content may result in less relevant ads or PSAs. Please also be sure
only to emphasize significant sections of your site’s relevant
content, since it’s against our program policies to the ad targeting
to result in ads that are not relevant to the content of your pages.
