Here’s a quick example page I put together to help someone on the Prototype mailing list:

This shows two ways to trigger a “loading” overlay on your page, and the second is suitable for any sort of form-handling you do using Ajax requests, because it not only signals to the user that you’re working on their input, it also “busies out” the page so they can’t modify anything while you’re working on the data.
