All hands on deck

Walter, any update on this? I’m assuming the current version of ActionsForge is running on Digital Ocean.

Yes it is, but not happily. The error log is growing at a furious rate, and I had to set up log rotation and deletion on a very tight leash to stay inside the disk budget on a “droplet” server.

I started a Rails clone of the server as it is a couple of weeks ago, but I haven’t had time to work on that much. The goal would be to duplicate all of the features currently in service, and then migrate the data, and then start moving ahead with new features as time permits. But the immediate goal would be to have a site that doesn’t eat itself alive with errors.

I’m in a similar situation with a MAR-powered form/app, the version of which I presume is very similar to what ActionsForge is currently running on. I need to upgrade PHP but MAR groans and falls over. Time to convert it to Ruby.

Hello Walter. . . First let me extend my appreciation and respect to you for all the work you do here in this community. Your dedication and expertise does not go unnoticed, be encouraged and know there are those who appreciate and see all you do.

As for upgrading, have you considered using the WordPress and BuddyPress architecture as their are quite a few community based solutions out there. Perhaps if could be based around an e-store model. Each action would be treated as a single product and the author could either make it free, or charge a fee if they so desire.

This idea is just a thought as it may help move things forward with tools that are managed and kept up by the Freeway team so you and the other talented action authors are free to continue to create new solutions which simplify the usage of Freeway as a tool. This would also empower the internal Freeway team to more directly manage things as they continue to move their wonderful piece of software forward.

I hope this input is encouraging and useful.

Kind Regards,
Dave

Thanks very much for your suggestion. There is another reason for me to do this in Rails, which is that there are new features I want to build in (for the authors) that I have already prototyped in Ruby. Instead of adding in all the version numbers manually, a script reads the Action file itself and finds all of the versions and all of the names of the Actions directly. That’s just one thing I have in mind that Ruby and Rails makes easy.
