Alpha Mask?

I’m am trying to follow the Fireworks tutorial at Community Trademarks - Alter in an attempt to reproduce the Intaglio Sample graphic “Aqua Button”. Everything has gone great until I try and apply the Alpha Mask that is supposed to add a hint of transparency around the caustic (glow). I’m pretty sure it is using a CI effect, but I can’t figure out which one, and then I’m guessing the final step uses the “Paths” sub-menu?

Can anyone clear this up for me? I have my Alpha Object created, but no matter how I try and apply it to the button it doesn’t come out right.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Are you talking about the object that appears in Figure 8 of the example? In Intaglio that features uses an intensity mask on the group object (see the group inspector at Window > Group). If you ungroup the object you’ll probably see what’s going on.

Yes, Figure 8 is it exactly. And checking Intensity in the Group palette is exactly the step I was missing.

Thanks for the help! Having only used the app for a few days, I’ve been very impressed with it so far. It has already proven to be money well spent!

Thanks again,

slight update to the file because a couple of the text samples that have patterns applied did not display has intended.
