# Altering a font?

Hoping someone knows the answer! I want to take a basic font, like Helvetica, and make the lines look a bit more hand-drawn. Is there a simple way to do this that I just don’t know? I figure it has to be in EFFECTS maybe but I just don’t use that much so I don’t have much of a clue where to start.
Anyone have some pointers for me? It would be much appreciated!

Like Convert-\>Text to path? Then you get editable shapes.

PS: That is of course a very manual approach, but I don’t know any
effect that would help.

Probably not, only because that would require editing every letter individually I think. I am looking more for an overall change to the feel of the letters. They don’t need to vary, just have them more like a handwritten font - so every E can look identical, it doesn’t need to very to looks REALLY handwritten IYKWIM.

Yep. That’s the problem. I’ll keep playing and see - maybe the way to go is to find the font I want to use (Helvetica) but that has already been made to look handwritten by someone else. There are alot of free handwritten fonts, one of them might work 🙂

Yes, it would, but that is the only way I can find to change the actual
shape in any nontrivial way. The effects are generally pixel-level post
processing and mostly single things like affine transformations. For
handwriting, I would just switch to another font.

PS: “single” should read “simple”. Simple as in limited.
