[ANN] FreeCounter2 Action updated

I just updated the FreeCounter2 Action to improve its behavior in
Freeway 5. As you may have seen, pages with FreeCounter applied to
them in “page” mode will always show a vertical scrollbar, because the
counter pixel gets added to the page outside of the master PageDiv.
This version fixes that problem by always adding the pixel inside the
PageDiv.

Coming soon – an encoded version for Express users.

Oh, and if you haven’t signed up for a free FreeCounter2 account,
please do so here: http://freewaypro.com/counter2/people/register

I have only just noticed this but could it be FC2 that is causing it.

I have a site based on the Frame a Page model with the Extra Background action to stop that sliver that appears.

This page http://www.stta.org.uk/index.html has the FC2 action applied ‘at the top’

while this page http://stta.org.uk/membersearch.php has it applied at the bottom.

Check out my slivers. I am sure I didn’t have them before FC2

Try using the stand-alone Inline version of the Action. Remove the page action version from you page(s) and then use Insert > Action > FreeCounter2 to place a counter pixel where nobody will notice it. You can resize it and move it where you like.

Hi Walter

OK I have deactivated the page action and added as stand-alone but it is a pain not being able to use it on the Masters. Is this just a problem with this sort of Frame-a-Page structure? or a clash with Extra Background or another action?

Note I have only deactivated the FC2 action, not removed it, because when I tried to remove it, it took out other Page actions that were applied as well! And I didn’t want to have to reset parameters for Sequence Timer amongst others.

Can you shed any light on why that should happen?

Master Pages and Actions are a funny thing. Paul swears by Action-
items on Master Pages, in preference to Page Actions, because they
can be updated later without the problems you note here.

I think it’s likely that the conflict is with the Extra Background
action, because all that my Action does is slip a 1px tall div into
the page, and this div has no background of its own, so it should
just sit there and let anything behind it slip through. I didn’t look
at the structure of your page, but I suppose that if there was
another DIV in the main PageDiv that was holding the “page”
background, it would be displaced by the counter DIV. I’ll look at
this, I can think of a simple way to fix it in a Page Action.
