Cool, thanks for the hard work Walter. I’ve been meaning to try this whole thing out.

I cant help wishing that actions be allowed and enabled to check for updates
as well as a means of managing them not unlike software update - where some
can be unchecked or even removed - and updates can be made in situ - along
with opportunity to see version numbers - Action URLs and release notes or
warnings.

This is a feature request!

regards
Brian

Serendipity Walter - I was looking for a lightbox that would work within your carousel action, none of the ones I tried did work though. Your ScriptyLightbox does however, so many many thanks. I also notice you have updated the Carousel to be a lot easier to construct and apply.

Have you been quietly watching over my shoulder and taking notes recently? Perfect timing I have to say!

When I try to install the action or copy to the actions folder, then open FWPro I get an error that an action has not been terminated. What went wrong?

Okay, I had to reinstall and all is fine. But I cannot get the contents of the page to work. I created a separate page with a logo and text (testimonials). On the main page I created a HTML with the word testimonials, linking to that previously made page. The lightbox comes up, but the image is not there. Also, the line spacing and formatting is smashed up. Do I need to do something special? Can it be mixed content in there?

If the page you are linking to is within your site, you will need to
somehow get

params="lightwindow_type=external"

into the URL that you use to open the page. This means you will need
to make the link manually (if you aren’t already).

Remove the link you are currently using to open the Lightwindow effect
with your second page.

Create a new normal link to that page using the Hyperlink dialog.
Before you close the dialog, click on the Extended button, then click
on the New button in the sub-dialog that appears.

You will see two fields: Name and Value. In the name field, enter
class (without the back-ticks, if you’re looking at this in e-mail)
and in the value field enter lightwindow.

Okay that sub-dialog, and press New again. This time enter params
and lightwindow_type=external in the Name and Value fields.

Okay, Okay, and Preview. You should see your second page in the
lightwindow box.

Note that adding params=… to the URL like this makes the page
invalid HTML at any level. (There is no params attribute.) I’m still
working on a way to fix this script so we don’t have to rely on this
sort of hack.

It appears I have it working on the entire page for all the links. I really love this (hope my client does too!)

It worked as long as I didnt put the class/lightwindow in the extended attributes though. Odd. And no matter what size I select on the action to make the media size, it still would fill the screen (using Firefox - need to test others).

I’ll update more as I figure it out and work through it. Thanks a million for the assistance!! This is just what I needed - help and a new look!

Forgot - no matter what I select, all the links turn to black text and do not keep the active/hover, etc. settings I made. Is this associated with the lightbox action?

The links within the Lightwindow will be black. But the stylesheets are very specific, and shouldn’t leak out onto your regular page.

Here is the page - all the links in the HTML will open into the lightbox. But as seen here, the links are all black on this page (this can’t be changed?). The very last one, testimonials, is the only one within this domain. The rest are external links and display nicely.

A bit confused… but thrilled with the new feature.

Just revved the Action (0.2.3) to include a new stylesheet. I realized that the CSS had some leftovers from a client project, where I had needed to “reset” the link styles when they were in the lightwindow. You should be back to your custom link colors now.

The media size is completely ignored for everything except QuickTime
and Flash.

So, I’ve downloaded the latest version (0.2.3) and it’s mostly solved the IE resizing problem. Do I need to do anything particularly special to have it’s fixes take effect in Freeway’s output?

I ask because it’s solved like 80% of the sizing errors I was having in IE, but some still do that weird ‘start big and then shrink’ thing that they were doing before. The really odd thing is that if a particular image does do that and then I close the lightbox window and try again, it will sometimes open properly as the lightbox is supposed to.

I’ve tried removing and re-applying the lightbox action and re-publishing but it doesn’t seem to fix it. Fortunately it seems to be working 100% of the time with movies or html.

In my testing here, the patch was a 100% fix in IE6 XP.

If you’re really not seeing the result, you might try a brand new
document, publishing into a new folder, just to be certain.

And if that works while the existing document does not, then try
removing the Action from your original layout, publishing, then going
back and adding the Action back in. Since you apply the Action to a
parent container (or a single image “thumbnail”) and there aren’t any
settings to contend with, then you should be able to get away with
this trick without significant re-building. If you have the Action on
more than one page, be sure to remove it from all pages before you
publish and then start adding it back in. Freeway caches copies of
Actions within the document, and sometimes prefers the copy over the
updated original.
