I’ve read a ton of posts from searching, and previewed some Freeway made sites - this one I like -http://www.christopherbowen.com/galleries.html
I currently have a Zenfolio gallery, http://www.karenengel.com/ - but it does not allow for any customization at all - although I really like the navigation and ease of updating it offers.
I’ve built a couple of FW sites so have some experience…
Any suggestions?

www.christopherbowen.com/galleries.html uses the Show/Hide layer action and is pretty easy to do in FW
Some of the pro photographers I know uses Fluid Galleries it’s pricey but very slick

another photography option for slideshows is Slideshow Pro. I use it, and it’s customizable to integrate into your site well.

Yes, the entire site is Flash. I would say Freeway can replicate the overall look and functionality with some javascript tricks.
