Anyone use a drobo for backup?

I’m considering a Drobo (http://drobo.com) for my increasing data storage and backup needs, mainly my Aperture photo library and freeway files. Anyone have any experience with them to share, good or bad?

I have a good friend who’s a professional photographer, and he swears
by his. He shoots with the biggest Phase 1 backs on a 6 x 7cm camera,
so he shoots hundreds of gigs of photos in a day.

Problem is if Drobo fails - everything written across the disks in their proprietary format. Try sorting that out!

Very true. I don’t have a Drobo myself, although there was a time when
I lusted after one. I belong to a professional photography forum
(PRODIG) and I’ve seen rather too many posts there saying that Drobos
had failed to make me want one now …

best wishes,

Just so I’m clear, you need Drobo’s software to recover from a backup?

Thanks for the comments, making me think twice now.
