Applying Styles From the Styles Pallet

Trying to get my head around styling text. When choosing a style that’s already done (the styles that come with Freeway that were from th tutorial) it jumps to another style in the list.

For instance, click on some text in a page, go to the Styles menu and choose a style. It will jump to another style in the list. This goes on for every style I choose.

I’m in v5.1.2.

This is a little issue I have with FW as well. Styles are handled in a somewhat additive way… in the sense that if a style is applied and then you apply another, you end up with a third temp style.

You need to remove the assigned style before applying the new style. You can do this by command-clicking the current style, or clearing it via the style inspector.

Yeah, maybe that IS what it’s doing. I thought it was just jumping to another style that was already there, but I guess it’s making a third style.

For future reference, it would be a good idea to get into the habit of creating all your basic styles in the Styles Editor (ones that you primarily use when starting a new site) before starting to layout your page. Then when you get to setting up text areas you can use these preset styles right away rather than using the styling options in the Style menu which will create a “style1” that you later have to get rid of.

Yes, I will do that in the future.

Just getting my feet wet inn Freeway and I’m a little frustrated with the way some things work. Some things just aren’t obvious right away.

Another thing that tripped me up for a while is Grouping and Ungrouping.And moving groups. They are impossible to select on the layout. I discovered the only way to grab a group is through the Pages Pallet.

But…still learning…

Yep, Freeway is a different animal. It’s claws can be well hidden at times.
