Is there a good program or a way to make / build a iPhone app?
A local restaurant just got one — and the lightbulb went on for something else to offer…
Not without learning to program. There used to be some “your Web site as an App–instantly!” conversion programs, but Apple cracked down hard on those, and I doubt you could get one approved in the App Store today.

Good morning,

Ah ok… What program would you use to program an app? Any learning tools you are aware of?
Thanks Walter

You can join the Apple Developer program at http://connect.apple.com and download the SDK (Xcode plus the libraries for iOS). The bookstores are full of titles on Objective-C and iOS.

Thank you! I will start digging… any suggestions on what to look at in particular?

Do a Google search for “Xcode for beginners” or similar. There are loads
of book recommendations. The Mac Dev site is a tremendous resource too.
Building apps has come a long way in terms of ease and accessibility for
the masses but don’t kid yourself, you’re still venturing down the
object-oriented road of programming and there’s a lot to grasp. Consider
this: If, as a working web designer, you’re intimidated about learning
the coding fundamentals of HTML and CSS then you might find you’re over
your skis with OOD simply because of the depth and complexities involved
with the latter. I’ve seen a couple app development tools out there that
aim to circumvent the learning curve of programming by making it a
point-n-click process but that will only get you so far.
I’m not saying don’t do it, by all means do if that’s what you want,
just be realistic in your expectations and the time and commitment
involved to get to a point where you’re able to design and build apps
for paying clients. There’s a lot of open water between where you are and
where you want to be.
I figured as much… but I am seeing (as we all probably are) is the demand. I am looking for a second source of income through another service to offer. and seeing the local restaurant come up with an app made me think
