The standard Backdraft template is 1200px - I want to make this 960px. Easy enough to change the template to a thinner width. But when previewed in the browser it reverts to the wider width when viewed on a large screen. How do I give it a max width to go to?
If you are using Backdraft 1.5, you will need to adjust the max-width of all the module wrappers from 1200px to 960px - that is the actual defining width. There will probably be some overflowing in the Freeway construction view, but you should be able to select the child elements via the sidebar and shrink them a tad in the inspector.
I have changed the 2,3,and 4 cols in the Alt Framework Modules to 960px, same to the Header Module in the Extra Modules. All other modules have been deleted.
All now fit fine in 960px. However, when previewed in browser, they revert to full screen width. The text should remain the same width as its corresponding image - not go to a wider width.
It sounds like you probably didn’t copy the modules properly. The hierarchy of the alternate modules look something like this:
Wrapper (eg twoWrapperAlt)
Inner wrapper (eg twoInnerWrapper)
Columns (eg twoLeft, twoRight)
It’s important that when you copy/paste you grab the outer wrapper element, as this is the bit that has the max-width setting. It can be a little tricky to accurately grab the outer wrapper - you can either click just above the white background box in the 20px padding of the outer wrapper, or you can select it via Freeway’s sidebar.
If you simply click inside the module, chances are that you will end up with just the inner wrapper and this would cause the problem that you are seeing.
