background image not centering on page

I am trying to give my pages a background by selecting through the inspector pallet. When viewed in preview the background image does no show in the page…it’s always off the page. I’m using Pro 4.4.2…it’s a jpeg

It would help a lot if there was a page online somewhere that we
could look at…

not here though…I’ve checked in Safari, Firefox, Netscape, and Camino. The background page loads from the halfway point on down…anyone have any sugestions/ I’m rather new at this. Thanks

I checked in Safari and the background looks centered left to right to me. Just to be sure, when you say centered you do mean left to right and not top to bottom?

I did notice that the text box under the handwriting is being covered by something above it.

Yes, I want the background to entirely cover the page vert. and hor. The other elements are unimportant…still in the process of design…just can’t get past this problem.

Do you mean that you want the background to repeat (tile) to cover the whole viewable area?

I don’t think I want it to look like tiling ( a repeated image)…The jpeg image is as large as the page. So the page is the entire image as seen…only in previewing the page’s image starts about halfway down the page and continues to run off.

What size of screen are you viewing it on.

The image appears to be 900px wide x 774 tall

On my 20" iMac set at 1680 x 1050 that takes the image nearly all the way to the bottom of the screen. 100px short.

I am not getting the problem you are experiencing with your image starting well down the page.

Every (Mac) browser I have tried displays it from the top down but it doesn’t reach the bottom of the browser window - on my machine anyway.

Even with NetRenderer Moved it looks OK in IE 5.5 through to 7.

If you don’t want to repeat the image then you should consider using a larger one as most folk these days have widescreens much wider than your 903px image. (and taller than your 678)

The kb size can be a problem then so make the file a progressive jpeg and reduce the quality to get the actual kb reduced. Or save as a gif.

Ok, then you have to make you background image much taller to cover more of the vertical page. Otherwise you will be tyling. So for example, make you graphic 1200px tall. In this case more is better. However, as Deltadave suggest try and save it to the smallest size possible to speed up page loads.

You may also want to consider making a solid color background bigger than you need vertically to keep size down, then center your main graphic at the top of the page but drop out the background in Photoshop and place it as a transparent .png file so your background color shows through.

Oh, sorry - you meant centred vertically.

thank you all…but to no avail i still have the problem of not seeing what I intend. I have not been clear. My screen is 23", the res is 1920 x 1200. The page is 800px x 600px.

I have put a frame around the page so as to clearly show that the background jpeg is not within the frame. Perhaps this is not possible ?

I simply want a textured background within the page confines.

I have also viewed at lower res.

It’s possible.

First of all, the “page” background in Freeway is really the background behind the page. The page as you call it is all the content. So, to do what you want, first apply an html box that covers the entire page, then apply your background image to that with a style. This is now the page background. All the rest of your content will go on top or inside of that html box.

If you still want a background beyond your “page”, then add a color to Freeway’s page background that coordinates with the image background.
