Best settings for quicktime movie & audio

I’m trying to set up some video and audio media on a website.
I’m having a problem in that the video shows but there is no audio. This is the same in Safari and Firefox.
I’ve tried a variety of settings, clearing caches as I go but think I’ve realised I’m kind of going round in circles with this.
So the general question is what are the best settings for best quality video and audio when working with quicktime in Freeway?
I want to match as close as possible the video quality without the pixelation.
Any insights are most welcome.

I’m not sure what the problem is here but the quicktime video is working fine until I import it into Freeway. When I preview it there is no sound. When I upload it or test it in the browsers then there is no sound. I am beginning to think its a freeway issue here. Anyone any ideas at all?
Theres a tester page here:

Any help is most welcome

Iam looking at the code for your video and see this

("Click to Play", "Bouncing%20AGM-poster.jpg","Resources/Bouncing%20AGM.mov","560", "353", "","autoplay", "true","bgcolor", "black","scale", "aspect","controller","true","scale","Aspect","playeveryframe","true","volume","100%"

How did you add this - through the QT Extras action?

If so then try again without the QTE action.

BTW try not to put space characters in your file names - it will upset some servers - stick to alphanumerics, hyphens and underscores.

Hello Dave, Thanks for your info. I had added it through the Quicktime Extras action. I have tried it without and it works.
Excellent.
Just wondering why it is that this action impedes the audio as such? I’ve expended some time trying out so many different encodings of audio and video to try and get this to work believing it may be something to do with the content. Its a relief to get it working but I’d really like to understand why the action affects the files like thus.
Really grateful for your time.
I take your point also about the spaces. I reckon in the repetition of trying to get this to work I lost my consistency of naming.
Cheers again

The QTE action doesn’t really do anything that you cant do using Item>Extended - I am not convinced that the code produced by the action is correct.

I could be wrong but the fact that your sound now works without the action goes some way to proving my theory.

I have used it before believing it to be ‘recommended’.
Its been a bit hit and miss as I have some movies where it is applied and works. It could be the source of a lot of wasted hours trying to get quicktime movies to work.
I shall now revisit those projects where I’ve used it to see if its worth keeping.
I guess its maybe worth reassessing the action with your knowledge and expertise.

Don’t get me wrong - I am no expert here.

The fact is that it works without the action - nuff said.

Going back to my original posting on this thread I am looking for some advice on what the best settings for audio and video are for quicktime movies to reproduce clearly on websites.
Any suggestions? I know there are a lot of variables in the equation but some clarity is helpful.

for some advice on what the best settings for audio and video are for quicktime movies to reproduce clearly on websites.

I think this may greatly depend on how you are creating them - what software are you using, what options are there?

I have a number of options depending on the source. Exporting from Final Cut pro Express or straight from quicktime.
With either there are a wide range of options too numerous to list here. The variables are wide ranging and I guess I want to try to narrow down the choices to whatever ones will stream smoothly and clearly without needing to be very small displaying frames.

I dont have or use FCP so cant help with that one.

Are you using QTPro?

Yes indeed

Then depending on version I would just try the default settings in Export for Web or Save for Web (enabling Fast Start) and see how it looks before trying to tweak further.

File size is critical - better to have a few smaller files than 1 huge one.

But as you are dealing with video from different sources you might be better to get them all into 1 so you can keep the settings consistent.

BTW - I find your Accordion menu a bit erratic.

Thanks for that. I reckon now that I have sort of ruled the quicktime extras out of the equation that I can now with a bit more confidence set about finding the optimal size for specific projects.
As for the Accordian menu, I think your right. Its one of a number of niggles I want to resolve. Any suggestions?

maybe this is for another thread but just wondered if there is another way to achieve what I have with the accordian menu but with a bit more control or is it just the way I’ve put this particular menu together?
