Blogger Actions?

Are you guys at Softpress planning on adding other actions for Blogger like Links, Previous Post, etc?

It would be nice to easily add more functions/elements to the blogs.

How would I manually add those to my existing blog created with Freeway?

Uhhh… i understand that. i’ve been designing blogs with FW5 since beta, but the only elements you can add are Header, Post, Profile, Archives

There are other elements that are easily added to basic blogger templates like Links, Previous Post, etc…

I was asking if Softpress is planning on adding more elements to the Blogger functions inside of FW5

Hi Brian,

Yes, we do plan to extend the Blogger Actions so more Widgets can be
added. In the meantime, take a look at this page that Dan Jasker
kindly made:

I had my first go, with some success:

Completely stumped by the absence of the header though, since the action was applied in the same way as all the others. All I can see is a small “house” icon.

Any special tricks to get the header to appear?

Your blog is private, we can’t see it! ;o)

Did you make sure you put header information in there in the “basic” tab - ‘title’ and ‘description’ in your blogger options on your blogger account.

I don’t see anything in your code that is supposed to load other than the house graphic and the square-boxed PNG.

Good suggestion, thanks, but that information is all there.

Hi Simon,

Try going to the Layout tab in your Blogger settings (in Blogger) and
clicking “Edit” in the Header element. In here you can specify a title
and a description and also state whether you want an image to replace
them (which it seems like you are doing).

Hope this helps.

Thanks Joe, but I tried that.

Incidentally, the layout is a mess in Blogger:

FW5 file here if anyone cares to take a look:

I’m not sure that the header being missing is anything to do with the
Freeway settings.

I used the template on my test blog and the title shows up just fine:

Joe, thanks. That was what I was beginning to think.

I think I might just trash that blog and set up a new test.

Thanks again for your time.

Hey folks, I have been able to add elements to my blog from Blogger.com with success. It would be best for FW to add this within so there isn’t double the prep, but at least I could add some content. I did add the labels element but I have to go in and find the font setting for that section - it doesn’t match the rest of my site right now.

can you share what code you are manually using? what about getting all the colors to match?

I made all my basic template layouts in FWPro5. Then I login at blogger.com and go to the layout/customize section to add “page elements”. I click on the element there and it works. Sometimes if you try to preview it, you’ll get an error. But, just ignore it… save and continue - it works.

I cannot get the colors or fonts to match the rest of my document - I dont know enough code to edit the HTML stuff manually (same place you drop all the code in for the entire page to use the custom FW template).

Now, the downfall of this - if I want to change my template source in FW and copy into blogger again, the elements I added via blogger are overwritten - have to add them back in with the page elements section again.

I have the same problems. When I add a page element, get the error message and save, it does work but the spacing is awful. I then have to add a ‘text’ element with any character, coloured to match the background, between every element (to act as a spacer) for it to look any good. This is very time consuming, particularly as the elements often go out of order and have to be shunted around.

I want to revamp my blog but the thought of losing all that fiddly work stops me.

Does anyone know how to correct the spacing in FW?

Do be aware that Google frowns on ‘invisible’ background coloured
text, and may blacklist you.
