button question.

I’m trying to make some buttons that have a dropdown menu. I used a css menu to create the dropdowns and it is all working as it should, but I am having one problem.

There are two buttons to trigger the dropdown, one is a largish, square one with an image, the other is a long thin line of text. They are arranged with the text lined up at the top of the picture and extending to the right. The empty spot below the text is where the dropdown menu options appear. The picture and text buttons also light up when they are rolled over, but currently only individually, and I would like it so that rolling over either would light up both, as well as revealing the dropdown menu.

I tried slightly overlapping the two buttons bounding boxes and they worked in tandem like I wanted, but then, because a rectangle was drawn around an L-shaped layout, the area that was sensitive to a rollover became much too large.

Is there another way to make two buttons act as one besides overlapping them?

Or is my whole approach wrong?

Sorry, long question; slow-witted freewayer.

How about making the text part of the button image instead of separate?

I guess it would be a solution, but I’m quite happy with my current design and would like to try and keep it.

If you can show us your current page online then we could probably offer a suggestion or two.
