I think I already know the answer to this one, but maybe I am wrong.
A prospective client who wants me to build a site for them but said they have Dreamweaver and that they need what I do to be compatible with Dreamweaver so that they can edit the site in the future. Is this possible at all?
I know you can’t just open Freeway files in Dreamweaver, but can they download the html files and then edit those in Dreamweaver?
I have never used Dreamweaver and don’t know how it works or what it is capable of. Any recommendations would be great! Thanks.
Simple answer is YES the FW generated Html fils can be edited in Dreamweaver!
But if you want to do subsequent changes in FW then the DW changes will have to be repeated in FW and the Html re-output by FW.
The ideal scenario for this would be if you were building a FW generated site that was then going to be completely managed in DW with no further input from yourself. Otherwise there will be a great deal of duplication of work.
The alternative is to create a FW site that uses a CMS (Content Management) system that the client can then use to update their pages that essentially leaves the FW construction alone.
This does require a fair amount of planning as to what areas the client would like to be editable but if they just want to include sections like News etc that are frequently updated then straightforward enough to do.
So the real question is ‘How much editing do they want to do?’
And what do I need to do for them to access the files in Dreamweaver? Give them a copy of the entire folder that is generated by Freeway? Just the Site Folder? Have them download the public_html folder through the server’s control panel?
I assume the .freewway files can’t be opened by DW? Just the .html files, correct?
If you give them the Site folder, that should have all the elements for the site (HTML files, resources etc.) as that is what is uploaded to your server.
