Just had a look at this. For the benefit of anyone else as ignorant as me following this thread:

I’d ignored the External side of the links dialog because this isn’t an external page. But of course it is just a manual link that is created there.
So I put pagename.html?tabname in that box and hey presto – exactly the link I wanted.

Sorry to grind over the basics of Carousel, you did put up some
instructions/tutorial for it some while back, would you mind reposting these
or a link

Pay careful attention to the order of operations in these
instructions. You have to create your panes first, then group them,
then apply the Carousel action to the group. If you want to add
controls to the carousel, either forward/back or tabs for direct
navigation, then you have to make those next and then group them with
the Carousel they are meant to control. So there’s two levels of
grouping required, in that order.
