Change index page name problem

Hello,
I have a website at http://www.guyenne-immobilier.co.uk/
and one arrives at the home page = index.html.
I have a replacement home page at http://www.guyenne-immobilier.co.uk/c

  1. I change the existing home page = index.html to indexold.html
  2. I change indexfeatured.shtml to index.shtml

I upload and the website shows a column of mini-pages.
I cannot figure out why.

Advice would be appreciated.

Two things here. One, your server is set to show indexes, and two, your server does not recognize index.shtml as one of the “magic” index page filenames. Your server administrator can change this behavior for you. The first is something that should only be on for folders you decide need to be listed, the second can be changed to allow a whole list of different filenames to match.

index.html index.php index.shtml … The first one it finds will “win”.

Hello Walter,
VERY much appreciated.
One always thinks it is " self " that is at a fault !!
I have excellent server support team fortunately.
