Changing everything to Flash movies

Hi All,

I am a sometimes user, sometimes I change my Website! The bulk of my site right now is QuickTime movies, samples of my video production work. What I want to do is change all of them to Flash, unfortunately I don’t know Flash that well, but I think enough, but the swf files I have made to date don’t seem to want to play. What I ultimate want are movies with controllers.

I also have Sorenson Squeeze with the newer Flash codec, and it seems to have controller options, but nothing I have made seems to work. Where can I find a tutorial to make what I want that will work in Freeway?

When I started using flash movies I couldn’t get them to work either!!!
This what I found out by trial and error and it’s my way so other people may create them differently.

  1. create your normal movie and convert it using either quicktime or sorenson squeeze or what ever you like to use into a flv format and place this in a folder.
  2. double click this flv …it should launch flash
go through the normal steps eg embed or streamed which controller you want etc.
  3. then resize the flash document to match the movie proportions.
  4. then this is the bit that had me stuck for blooming ages
save the fla in the same folder as your flv.
  5. create your swf file and save that
It should then play in a browser

Hey max,

My first attempt at this with your method did not work. I notice Flash is saving the controller as a separate file, is that normal? I’m completely confused.

yes it is… the controller should reside with the flv and the swf

Max,

Another thing that happened is when I clicked on my flv file it opened Sorenson Flash player, not Flash. So I opened Flash and imported the flv. Was this wrong? Should I just open a Flash doc and let it make the flv?

Flash video files (.flv) are not regular Flash documents at all.
Those aren’t imported into web pages. Instead, you place a regular
Flash (.swf) movie controller on the page, and this is what plays the
Flash video file.

Set up your .swf Flash controller so it knows where your .flv Flash
video file is, stick the controller on a Freeway page, make sure
everything’s uploaded to the right place, and you’re done.

Keith,

How do I set up my controller so it knows?

Why knock yourself out? Try this:

Just be sure to make the settings (not the defaut) to your quality expectations. That is where most users on this forum seem to have problems. It takes a bit of experimentation to achieve the quality you are satisfied with. Once that is done, you’re good to go.

One other thing . . . Forgot to tell you why you would want to use Video2SWF:

Video2SWF allows the option to embed the controller into the flash movie and there are a handful of controller designs to choose from. One of them looks exactly like Quicktime. Once you have created the flash movie using Video2swf you add it to your Freeway project just like a Quicktime file. Just drag it in. Simple. Job done. It also batch converts.

Cecil,

Wow, that may be a godsend, I’m trying it out right now, that’s EXACTLY what I need, I think. Thanks a lot!

Cecil,

YES!!! And I seem to have got the quality set right on the first pass. What a great little program!

Thanks to all here, problem solved.
