"Connection Failed"

I mentioned this before but can’t remember the thread address…

I’ve copied a table from one FW document into another new FW document (from a 3.1 document into a 3.5.15 Pro document), and now when I try and preview or publish I get the dreaded “Connection Failed” message, specifically:

Connection Failed - The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again.

If I click OK on this dialogue things proceed and publish/preview no problem. But it’s damned irritating, another mouseclick/delay…and why is it there? where the hell is it coming from?

All this is running on OSX10.4.11.

Any theories?

Issue two of this cut and paste (from 3.1 to 3.5) is that the table contents are resolutely stuck to the top of cells despite reading ‘middle’ in the cell alignment inspector. Cell inspector changes make no difference at all to the output which remains all content firmly fixed to top of cells. It’s as though valign has gone awol!

Any theories on that?

cheers
Hugh

What’s in the table? I think that’ll be the source of the trouble,
although it does sound a trifle odd.

Hi Keith,

Hmmm…what’s in the table?

Well, 40 rows x 5 columns. The columns are:

‘Directive No’ - just a code number in text format, not links

‘Full Text Link’ - these are links to outside sites represented by a graphic( Adobe PDF icon)

‘Marking’ - graphic symbols/icons, unlinked

‘Directive Title’ - text descriptions linked to other pages in the site

‘EHSRs’ - text links to other pages in the site

That’s it, nothing particularly fancy. The table has always been like this, and has been cut and pasted before (under OS9) without any publishing problems.

After the ‘Connection Failed’ dialogue has been banished, I get another FW error boix saying it can’t find the original graphic files for some of the items, and can it use the low res image. I ok that.

Maybe it’s all caused by OSX looking for images which are (to it) “on another server”…??? Possibility?

Sounds like it to me. Are you sure all the graphics are entirely
‘contained’ within the document - that there is nothing that
references something external?
