convert a page into a vectorfile?

Hello everybody!

Is it possible to convert a specific page made in Freeway into a vectorfile… so it can be used in Illustrator?

Hello Hans - no, not from Freeway. There’s no
print feature, and the export options are
bitmap-specific.

But you could open the page in a browser and then
use OS X’s Print dialog to generate a PDF from
there.

Actually, there is QuickDraw GX – but I defy you to find a vector
illustration application of modern vintage that can open these…

I would add to Keith’s suggestion by trying;

  1. Preview your Freeway page in a browser
  2. Print this to PDF
  3. Open in Preview and save as a PNG
  4. Upload this to Vector Magic (http://vectormagic.com/) and see how it does at
    auto-tracing the image.

Alas Vector Magic is no longer free but you can try it out a couple of time to
see if you like it.
Regards,
Tim.

Extend Freeway the way you want with FreewayActions.com

Much better solution:

  • Go Print >Save as PDF
  • Drag that PDF into a blank Intaglio document
  • Go Edit:Convert PDF to editable
  • Ungroup… edit as desired in Intaglio

Intaglio can then save as to EPS / SVG…

Everything except bitmapped graphics in the original page will be vectors, ie all text, lines etc.

Sorry, of course, first open the page in a browser, then do Print > Save as PDF from the browser (can’t print directly from Freeway).

I have some pages I am not happy with and would like to remove them
from viewing until I fix them up. Is there a best practice way of
doing this?
Thanks

Click on the page so nothing is selected. Change the file name so that it has an “underscore” in front of it… like this: _title Now it won’t publish when you upload.

Vicki,

I am not seeing this behavior here. Where did you come across this info?

No. I am afraid an underscore wont work.

The page will still publish and be found at yousite.com

This is an often requested feature that does not exist yet - you are probably best to either put these pages in to an obscurely named folder and make sure there are no links to them from the rest of the site or copy the freeway file to a safe location, delete the pages from the current site and copy them back in once you are happy with them.

Remembering that if you are working on the copy make sure that you create a new site folder to publish into so that your current site is not overwritten.

There’s an Action you can apply to the page, I believe by Joe
Muscara, that will simply remove all content from the page. The page
will publish, but it will be blank. Maybe that would help out here.

Joe, could you please pipe up and refresh my memory?

I see the main issue in managing a site in freeway is both the inability to flag pages to not be uploaded… and the autolinking feature not having an override.

I would like to see a mechanism added like the styles/colors delete process, where deleting a page linked to by others would provide the option to reassign the “internal” link to another page.

Right now it seems your only choices are to delete the links or create an external one (which is of course easily broken). Actually… in the current version of FW, the external linking seems broken by default as it is creating the external links with a leading …/ which of course is pointing the browser to an incorrect directory.
