Counter

I’m looking to add a counter to a clients site - I have used the freeway counter before and am very pleased with it. My question is this: Can this counter (or any other) be started from another number other than 0001? Basically my client wants it to appear that the site has been getting visitors for some time - which it has, it just hasn’t had a counter.

Client wants a visible counter? Yuck  Talk him out of it …

I don’t get it. He and you are the only ones seeing the FreeCounter results, so why would he want to “boost” them?

This won’t even be an issue with FreeCounter:

http://freewaypro.com/counter2/home/about#q_7

that system is “stealthy” by design.

Definitely, I couldn’t agree more. This is soooo 1990s Geocities
fanboy stuff!

Would the the fact that the counter started at any other number really matter - if any viewer was at all interested in how your site was doing he would come back in a few days to check the counters progress and not rely on one visit.

And to reiterate what everybody else has already said “Talk the client out of it, it is so last season!”

I would say, last century/millennium/epoch.

Using the ‘so last season’ in the same way that the fashion industry does to revile anything that has gone before.

But you know there are plenty of fashion trends that have come back to haunt us - visualising Walter in huge flairs and shaggy sideburns - so maybe the Visible Counter will make a comeback.

Y’know, I’ve always wanted to make a site with animated GIFs of
flaming torches in each corner …

Recall the UPS (or maybe IBM) commercial with the two guys explaining
to their boss: “We could have a spinning logo OR a flaming logo!!!”
