crashes...

Have experienced a number of crashes while using FW 5 Express on an iMac G4 with 768MB ram. (Yes, an antique. But a pristine one, at that.)

Purchased the app yesterday, installed it last night, and put it to use this morning. And in that short span–well, am stunned by the number of times it’s had to be relaunched.

This has been a stable machine, has never so much as hiccuped while running Photoshop, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Word, and the like. (Albeit versions from several years ago.)

What could be tripping up FW? The crashes are happening while I’m editing a CSS menu. Could this be font-related?

Appreciatively,

Z

I would check fonts, then resources such as any images you might have used. There are some good articles in the Softpress knowledgebase if you need help or steps. If you still have problems, don’t hesitate to ask!

Certainly dodgy fonts are known to be the cause of a lot of FW crashes.

What OS are you running?

Also experiencing crashes while [not] working with fonts–well at least not directly. Just moments ago had two more crashes while nudging a “graphic rectangle.” Of course, yes, the fonts are still in the menu, etc.

Will check fonts, but am fairly sure they’re in good order.

As for my OS: 10.4.11

There are a number of font diagnosis utilities out there, some free
or very inexpensive. Check on VersionTracker for more info. You would
be startled what sort of mayhem can happen inside a little ol font,
and how deeply it can hose your entire machine.

Walter,

Which of the many is your favorite?

Thanks,

Just digging in my utilities folder, I spot OKFont.app, last opened
3/15/06 back when I was having lots of font issues with my collection
of over 4,000 faces. Not so many now…

Walter,

Thanks. Will dive into the fonts over the weekend.

Are you flipping between Preview and Page view? If so this is a known
bug that we are looking at, using Preview in Browser instead is safer.

Joe,

Indeed, yes, have been switching between Preview and Page View. This capability was one of the reasons we purchased FW 5.

In so many other ways FW is a terrific application, but as regards this flaw we are quite disappointed.

Enthusiastically looking forward to a remedy,
Z
