CSS Menu Action: Useless?!

Sorry if I sound frustrated (hopefully it is just me doing something stupid), but has anyone been able to create anything of value with this action?

I refer to:
http://www.aboutpollockpines.com/untitled1.html

I would like divider lines between items, but not borders.

When you mouse over the first menu all is fine… but when you mouse over the submenu, the rollover hilite of the main menu item is lost. What menu behaves this way?

And then mouse over the second (and third) main menu item. See the pixel shift in the submenu items compared to the main menu items?

Looking forward to being told I’m a dummy and that this action is actually useable.

You’re a dummy, and the actions is actually useable

But seriously. I reproduced your menu here, and your version online is
acting strangely - when you roll over the first item (or the others,
come to that) the pop-out menu comes out with the ‘rollover’
background that the first one has, even though at this stage I haven’t
rolled over any of the sub-items. When I made it here, the first link
acquired its rollover background (dark brown) on rollover, but the pop-
outs, rightly, did not, they just showed the un-rolled-over state, ie,
page background (light blue) and didn’t get the rollover background
until rolled over.

I do see an annoying little ‘jog’ in the positions of the sub items,
but it’s being exacerbated by the fact that, when you roll over an
item in your version, the item shows the rollover background, but so
do all the sub items
and that makes the jog very visible. Something
wrong there. Mind you, that jog shouldn’t be there either.

best wishes,

Hi Paul,

Note that the rollover color for the main items is the reddish brown, which “is” the default background for the submenu (whose items have a rollover color of blue). This is by design.

My issues are the “jog”… and of course the main menu item not maintaining its rollover hilite when mousing over the submenu. I can’t believe I never noticed this before… did it just recently get broken or has it always been this way? Is this expected behavior?

I have to say that I am pretty disappointed in the menu authoring capabilities of FW. In a completely WYSIWYG tool that is so design oriented, this very important part of web design seems to go completely unaddressed short of a couple of band-aid like actions that are (IMHO) woefully inadequate.

Dear Freeway Product Manager…

Please, please, please, contact the folks at Big Bang Software:

http://www.menumachine.com/

Their parent app has just been EOL’d. Perhaps some of their very capable menu authoring code can be leveraged in FW with your help. I know I would spend $100 or so to either Softpress or Big Bang for an action of this caliber… and so would many others!

Just a suggestion… actually, more of a plea. Ok, I am begging now!
