Difficult to see being black on black though there is a little feint drop shadow on the graphic. Actually - if you zoom the screen command + (firefox) all the way it does look that its above the carousel.

I bow in reverence and concede that you are both right. The site is the only the second I made in FW (a few years back), so it is full of crap code. I shall, one of these days, clean up the menus, etc.
I tried all variations on the above and none worked. THEN… DeltaDave was right on. I had missed white back ground color on the submenu! Now it works just fine
