CSS Menu question

If you look at the path I pasted, you will see that quite a few of
the files are inside of application bundles. Try this: copy the path
I pasted into a new BBEdit document, and remove any line-breaks
enforced by Mail. Copy it again, and in the Terminal, type:

bbedit [paste rest of path here]

and press Return. If you have installed the bbedit command-line tool
(and it’s a default to do so, so I suspect you have) then BBEedit
will open the file in a new window. (As long as you have installed
Freeway in the default location.)

Click on the “crossed out pencil” icon in the top-left of the
resulting BBEdit window, and enter your administrator username and
password when prompted. Now you should be able to make the find-
replace changes needed.

The other way to do this is to Control-click on the Freeway 5
application icon, select View Package Contents to open a new Finder
window showing the insides of the package, then follow the rabbit
hole through additional packages as necessary, following the path as
noted.

Aha! I did not realize it was packages inside of packages… I’ve got
the file open now in BBEdit… So simple after that… Thanks!

Ok - so I’ve been fiddling with the menus and have come across somethings:

http://www.mythicworldtours.com/test/index.html

The text is GIF text in the menus and now, when you hover over the words, the background on that “cell” is not turning colour.

Also, I want, for the second menu, further down the page, to have 3 items at the top and three at the bottom. I’ve successfully done this BUT the menu extends far outside the right border of the HTML item and the only way to bring in the background colour is to make the width of the menu less ems. Am I going to have to make two menus?

Another odd thing is that if you change your text to GIF for the menu, any text that falls below the bottom border of the html box, gets all jagged and you have to make the box tall enough to fit all of the words - which makes me wonder where or how can we set the height (and visual width too) accurately?

In addition to this, the rendering of the CSS is completely different
in FW than it is in Safari. My menu at the top in Preview - the width
is the same as the item below it showing the upcoming tours. Also,
the hovering over of a city that has submenu items, doesn’t always
work and when it does, for instance, Vienna - has 4 tours but the
first one only shows until you mouse further down but then if you
didn’t see more or were not interested in the first, you’d not mouse
further down…

Plus, the arrow is too close to the words - how do we set the margin
on these to properly display?

I’ve had another look at your menu test, and I just have a basic
comment. If you are trying to debug one thing, don’t put ten other
things on the page that might be confusing it.

Try copying the menu items off of this page, and paste them onto a
new test page that has nothing but a black background. Particularly
don’t include the scrolling teaser thing in the mix. It’s impossible
to say if any of that stuff is messing with the menu, but it’s
impossible to rule it out, either. Most of all, it just makes it hard
to evaluate the problems you are reporting. On my Mac, the drop-down
portion of the CSS menu is still resolutely not working, but again, I
don’t know why that might be.

Can you move the bottom one up, or better yet, add an empty graphics
box about 300px down below it? The menus drop, but I can’t see them
because the screen isn’t tall enough. Freeway is cutting the page off
at the bottom of the lowest visible element (in this case, the second
menu).

The issue with your first menu is that you have a confusion of styles
in there. You may have added a span style to the link text after you
added a link, or vice-versa. Try making the menu without any text
style at all (triple-click on each menu item, press [No Style] in the
Styles palette, and start from there. You can add the style back in
after you have the basic effect working.

There is something desperately wrong with the generated code when you
use graphics for the text in these menus. The image tags, which
should be single-ended tags <img src= ... /> are coming out as
bastard single-double tags: <img src= ... /></img> and there are
map tags a-plenty, too, even when the image in question is already
wrapped in an A tag. Shouldn’t be possible. This looks like a problem
either with the Action itself, or the way you are constructing the
parent element. I would send a cut-down document – just this test
page – to Support, and let them do the alien autopsy on it.

It’s almost pub-thirty in Oxford!

If you want to launch tonight, I suggest you scale way back on the
style and use plain HTML text for your menus. It will work, and look
okay, and you can scale up the pizzaz as soon as you get an updated
action or additional instructions back from the weezards.

Sorry, I haven’t followed all this thread but a) I recently used the
new CSS menus on a paying site and it worked like a champ and b) why
use GIFs when the idea, surely, is to have lightweight, fast loading
text-only menus a la CSS? Apologies if I’ve misunderstood your
intentions.

best wishes

I wanted to use a specific font - but that’s out the door. Now, the
rendering is wrong between my FW Preview and Safari… So, I’m really
confused… underlines are being added when they shouldn’t be. The
width of the menus are not as wide in Safari as they are in FW
Preview… It’s a nightmare…

Then I would recommend you step back to the previous Menu Bar action,
which is battle-tested and CAN use GIF text. Maybe not as Geek-Cred-
inspiring, but it will do what you are trying to do here.

Yes, it does, and I believe it is there in a vanilla install. (just
checking…) yes. Draw a table to define the top level of your menu.
Give it as many columns as you want to have main menu options.
Duplicate this table off onto the pasteboard somewhere. With the
first table selected, choose Item > Actions > Menu Bar from the main
menu. In the Actions palette, select your second table in the Menu
Items (table) picker. In the second picker, you define your first
level of options by entering text in paragraphs. Just enter an
option, press return, and enter the next option and so on. Do this
for each column of the table when you have options for that main menu
item. If you want sub-sub menus, put a + at the beginning of the
line, two ++ at the beginning for even more sub-ness.
