CSS menus

I’m using the CSS menu action in FWPro 5.2 but finding the process hit and miss. Sometimes it works as expected and then other times none of the settings seem to be apply to the appearance of links and backgrounds. Is there a problem with this action?

There shouldn’t be, do you have an example we can see, or even better,
two side by side showing the problem? If you need us (support) to see
your fie then please send it through to support(a) softpress.com

Regards,

Joe

Ok Joe, an example of this problem can be illustrated with these two links:

on this page the CSS menu appears as I want it -
www.edgeoutreach.com/PureWaterPureLife/mediapage.html

on this page, generated from the same FW file, it no longer appears properly.

I guess the obvious observation is that, on the one that doesn’t work,
the gaps between the menu items are bigger than they are on the one
that does - maybe a little twiddling in the Actions palette?

humm, I think I may have found the fix though I don’t understand it. Paul B’s observation that the gaps between the menu items are bigger on the one that doesn’t work caused me to look at the alignment of the style. It did not have a paragraph style. I added one set to align left and now the CSS menu works. If anyone knows why I’d love to hear.

Thanks Paul.

Hi Troubadour,

Thanks for that. Just had a dig around in the code and it looks like
it’s something to do with styling. The entire list of the good page
has style2 applied to it whereas each individual menu item in the bad
one has a style called PWPMenu applied to them. This is happening
because style2 is a paragraph style and PWPMenu isn’t.

The way to make sure that the pages are both always the same is to
make both styles paragraph or both character level styles. To do this
you can either add align:left to the PWPMenu style or remove it from
style2.

I hope this helps.

I had the same problem. No matter how big I made the box the bulleted text was in, if I went past a certain Menu Width (em) setting, everything jumped to two lines.

Not sure what governs that. Doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense.
