I’m in the process of switching from a shared host to a VPS of theirs. They have a great knowlegebase and extensive forums that will get you out of most scrapes. However, you need to be able to follow directions and use the terminal. Also, keep in mind that they don’t offer software support.
In other words, this is a very DIY approach to web hosting.
The advantage is that, because you have complete control over your server, you can customize it to your liking. I’ve installed Google’s PageSpeed Apache module and done some other custom configuration to optimize the sites it serves, and the end result is that the websites hosted on my server load 30% faster than they did on the shared host.
