I can’t seem to find anything on password protecting in the help. I’d
like to be able to disable downloading of files except for selected
users, since the software I’m using is still in the development stage
and I’ve signed a non-disclosure agreement regarding it. I’m checking
now with the developer, but I think if I could prevent downloading of
actual files written with the program, he wouldn’t mind my posting a
lot of screen shots.
Can anybody steer me in the right direction regarding password
protection? Either of a whole section of a website or via disabling
certain controls?
Thanks in advance.

This is where you might have a problem with Comcast.
Most hosting providers provide some sort of CPanel which gives you access to features like this which include Password Protected Directories.
This allows you to set user/password lists so that only authorised users can get in.
This shows a section of a CPanel that provides this. http://www.deltadzine.net/cpanel.html
There are other methods but this is easy to implement with most Hosting schemes.
There is an action called Password Protected URL but security is light and wont stop somebody stumbling into the ‘protected’ page/folder.

You can also encrypt zipped files so that they require a password to unzip them.
Stuffit offers these options Page Not Found

Thanks, I’ll send them a question about CPanels, and try a search on
Comcast.

This sounds like a quick fix that I think will be acceptable to the
developer.
Thanks very much.
