Domain name redirect with no access

Hope someone can give me a few tips on how to work this.

I have a client who has asked me to redesign his website. Currently it’s a WordPress site at http://thesdfirehousemuseum.org/ but I have the new freeway site designed and ready to go.

The student who designed the current site for them can’t find or remember the username and password for domain name management at GoDaddy so I can redirect the domain name to the new Have Host web servers where I plan to upload the new freeway built site. I’m not even sure he can make any changes to the WordPress version. The museum can’t find the paperwork for access to domain name management either although the student said it was in a desk drawer.

Anyone have any tips how I can convince GoDaddy that this is a legitimate issue I am trying to resolve or should I just go with a new domain name? Should I just contact them, how will they know this is a legitimate request?

If I can’t resolve this I guess they have to live with the old site remaining active?

Any ideas?

The owner of the domain will have to contact GoDaddy. Once they verify they own the domain, such as supplying the original email confirming receipt of payment, GoDaddy should be able to reset the password to something new.
