download mp3s

I’ve found bits and pieces of possible solution(s) to my problem and am sooooo hopeful Walt or one of the other wizards can concisely help me resolve the issue.

I’m putting sermons for my church online and want to have a single page that has separate links to listen and download. Using Wimpy button maker, I’ve created .swf files and put the widgets on the page. No problems here: Click, and they play.

The problem is the download link. In other posts, I’ve found instructions to create a separate folder in the site pane and place the page where I want the force download to work. I’ve placed the “.htaccess trick” as it’s called in the resources folder of that folder along with the .mp3 files. I’ve created a path to the .mp3 files in that resource folder and consistently get this error when I click on the link:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, email@hidden and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

My finite mind has run out of possible fixes.

File a support ticket with your hosting provider. The server is not
configured to allow you to make the change using the .htaccess file.
Ask your hosting provider to edit the httpd.conf file and add
AllowOverrides All in this directory (or more properly, in your root
directory). Promise them nicely that you won’t do anything stoopid.
