Dropbox vs. MobileMe

I’ve been using the free version of Dropbox and like it. As I
understand it, MobileMe has a similar feature plus more bells and
whistles, email etc… For about the same price Dropbox offers 2.5
times as much storage (50GB) but none of the extra stuff that comes
with MobileMe. So, as far as sharing/syncing files with other people
is concerned what has been your experience? Does MM work as
advertised? Do you think it’s worth the cost?

I don’t know Dropbox, but I use MobileMe to synch my work machine, home machine, laptop and iPod.It works well, though I cannot use the Back to my Mac feature because of access restrictions at work

I am going to stop using Mobile Me next month when my year expires and
go with Dropbox. I’ve been using Mobile Me for three years, but I have
never used any of the bells and whistles, so I’m not going to miss it.
I’ve also been using the free version of Dropbox, and it seems to me
that it works so much faster than Mobile Me. I wanted to use MM for
backing up more than just the standard things offered in System
Preferences, but it was soooo sloooow that I gave up. I wanted to
actually work on documents in my iDisk, but I got the spinning beachball
a lot. I’ve got 4GB of RAM, so I don’t think that’s the problem.

It’s not quite as easy to sync things with Dropbox, but only because so
many applications are set up to work with Mobile Me, but more and more,
applications are offering instructions to sync with Dropbpox, e.g.,
1Password.

You can also use Mozy.com and pay $4.95/mo for unlimited storage. I’m
using their free account, too.
