E-Commerce pages

Hello folks,
Just a bit of advice sought from the Freeway community out there…
I’m contemplating putting together a website using Freeway 5 which I
puchased some time ago, and would like to add an e-commerce page to it so
that punters can purchase items straight off the site. Any recommendations
from you folk out there as to which e-commerce method would be best to use,
most likely using PayPal as the secure gateway so that the punters feel
secure. There used to be a service that came with Freeway called ‘Mal’s
e-commerce’, but a service with such a name didn’t sound very secure at
all, put the punters off, so any other recommendations?
Thanks,
Mark Lang.

Mals is one of the most respected services out there for Cart implementation - besides you can link Mals to PayPal for payments very easily.

All payments are taken on the PayPal servers and in fact the customers dont actualkly need to know they are on Mal’s at all.

Mals works fine, and though there is a learning curve, it is not too
difficult to get it working, but you could also just use the paypal links,
code of which is available on paypal’s site. Using the paypal code does not
require the user to use paypal.

Thanks to you both, Delta Dave and Chris Jones, for your replies re:
e-commerce pages. I’ll have another look at Mal’s, now that you both
recommend that facility, and let you know how I go, should I run into any
problems.
Meantime all the best,
Thanks,
Mark.

Note that for a simple site, with one or two items for sale, I think Paypal
is much easier. Here is what I did recently:

You can see the drop downs with options. The checkout is where it gets a
little obnoxious, since Paypal obviously really wants you to use Paypal
instead of your credit card.

Hi Chris

While this is an easy way to bypass using a Cart of any sort it does give the problem of toing and froing to payPal if you have to add an additional occupant and/or the use of the trailer pad.

Is there an option in PayPal somewhere that would allow you to see the content of your cart (in an iFrame?) without leaving the ordering page so you can add more stuff.

The other thing I noted was that you use the clients’ names on the Booking calendar and I cant help feeling that some customers wouldn’t like that - and it may put them off booking.

They may not want it to be public knowledge that they are there (with a lady friend?) - a bit like putting the Hotel Guests names on a sign outside!

Hi Dave-
I ask everyone if I can use their last name on the calendar, and no one has
said no. I set this up quickly a while back, and really have not thought
too much more about it-- seems to work fine for a small site with modest
traffic. I think everyone understands the nature of the paypal beast, and
puts up with lack of a more sophisticated cart on small sites.

That’s good - I know that in your litigious society you can’t be too careful! But to cover yourself you really should have a disclaimer - you don’t want the wife to find out about a husband’s ‘business trip’ because of your calendar, then hubby sues you.

This may seem an extreme example but it does happen.
