It doesn’t install on your server, but you may be interested to know about Hab.la. It’s the only option available that lets visitors start a chat on your website and allow you to see and respond to it in your instant messenger client as if you’re IM’ing with a friend.
http://hab.la is a free script, but also has a huge array of features: multiple operators, multiple users, logging and tagging, push capability, user monitoring and visitor statistics.
