Edges of Graphic Path (layer) overlap when published

I have created graphic items using the path mode and checked the layer box (absolute or fixed, outcome is the same) in the inspector for each so I can use the Transition FX action.

When I place the duplicates of the items next to each other (some of them are rotated), in the Preview pane and the Preview in Browser window some of them are in the wrong place and the bounding box shows on top of the next item. This happens even though the background of the item is supposed to be transparent (None selected in the color menu).

Any idea how to really make just the graphic itself visible without the bounding box showing and how to keep them from moving?

Thanks for any help!

The moving issue I’m not sure about - could you put an example online?

But as for the issue of transparency, it is probably simply that
you’re not using an output graphic type that supports transparency.
Make sure it is either GIF or PNG; JPEGs cannot ‘do’ transparency of
any kind, so the whole rectangular area has to be generated as some
kind of solid colour.

Any help?

Excellent - a PNG didn’t solve the overlap problem, but a GIF did. Thanks, that never occurred to me.

I’ll do some experimenting and see if they are still moving - so far they aren’t as GIFs.

Many thanks again!

No, they are still not staying in place…not sure how to publish just that page to show it to you or attach a screen shot or something. Any ideas on how to show you?

Easiest way is to create a folder in your FW doc ie stephoto.us/test and then publish into that. Make sure that it is a folder that you dont have already.

You can do that from any FW document by specifying the path in the upload section as public_html/test or htdocs/test or whatever naming convention is used on your server and using the stephoto login details

Upon further investigation…it has something to do with the Screen Measurements (X and Y, not W and H) being different than the dimensions of the boxes (but only some of them…).

For example, the box is 58 x 156 in the dimensions fields, but lower down it says X: 116px and Y: 9px. When I click on the Y field, it says 263.43, but then reverts back to 9 when I click out of it.

I’m so confused…the Reference pdf only mentions screen measurements in terms of padded items, but mine are not padded.

Any help would be a godsend.

OK, I think I did it wrong, but it’s up (and live…), I can go back to the old site afterward.

Here’s the link: http://stephoto.us/stephotoportfoli.html

The part I’m talking about is the flower formation on the right. Those petals should be right around the shaking middle part, right up against it, not hanging out in space like that.

Please let me know if that helps and if anyone can help, wonderful!

OK - this may not be the best way but should achieve what you want.

After you have created the different petals, select them all and File>Export this will make one graphic from all of them. Export as Gif to preserve your transparency.

You can then delete them from the page and import the one you just made as a single graphic file. You will then only have 2 graphics - the centre and the one made from the individual petals

I am assuming that you are using an action to get the centre to move like that.

Aha! You’ve rotated the boxes and now they don’t appear in the right
position when you look at the results in the browser, right?

This is a bug, and there’s a simple way around it. If you group those
items together they won’t shift in the final output. I hope this
hiccup gets fixed soon! It isn’t hard to work around when you know
the trick, but it shouldn’t happen in the first place.

An unrelated comment: you really (really!) should remake your blocks
of text so they’re built as HTML boxes and text, not graphics. A
graphic image of text is un-findable in Google and unreadable for
those with accessibility issues or just graphics disabled. It also
doesn’t print well, if someone wanted to print out and keep a record
of your info and contact details. AND it isn’t possible to just
select-copy-paste your phone number into an address book!

And one more thing - a question rather than a comment. What do you
think of stock libraries? Do you submit photos to any, would you not
touch them with a 10-foot pole, or what?
I’m asking because I’m writing up something about stock libraries
(for illustrations as well as photography) and I’d really appreciate
your thoughts on the subject. Hmm. Maybe I should put this into a
separate thread…

DeltaDave - thanks for the suggestion, I’ll definitely use it for other graphics, but each of those petals is timed to appear separately, so it wouldn’t work in this case.

thatkeith, I tried grouping them, but they are still in the wrong place - it does indeed seem like a nonsensical bug in both cases. Maybe I’m just asking it to do too much for this version. I haven’t upgraded recently, so that could be it too. (I’m on Pro 5).

Yes, you’re right about the text boxes, I shall change them. I had read that in a tutorial or something, but didn’t heed the advice. Thanks for the reminder.

As for stock photo sites, I’ve been thinking about it for a loooooong time, but have only ever looked at a few sites and/or signed up for an account never to upload anything. It was a combination of a lack of time and a lack of knowledge about which site to go to and which would be best, etc. I would touch them with a short stick, just don’t know enough about them yet.

However, I have started a cafepress.com shop and put my images on products to sell. That’s been not only fun but really cool to see my images on things people can use. Haven’t finished the shop yet nor have I sold anything (need to learn a lot more about getting the stuff noticed). Anyway, you might want to check that out if it piques your interest for your story. It’s like another thing to do with images besides sell them outright. You can also sell framed prints, also another “stock” format, kinda…

Best of luck and feel free to email me or signal a thread, would be great to start a discussion on it. Hope that helps.

If that is the case then I suggest that you do your duplications/rotations in Pshop or similar and then import to FW. Or export individually and then reimport one at a time.
