Rather obviously:

  1. Click on the text box to select it.
  2. Place the cursor where you want it and double click
  3. Double click again if you want to select the entire word

But, to make sure it did, I did it as I wrote my answer!!!
So:
A. Which step does not work?
B. What do you mean by “edit”?

ummm edit means to change the letters in this case, say i have a text box with the words “tree one” and i want to copy and paste this text box and change the pasted text box to tree two, and this is where the edit part comes so pay attention - when I double click on the newly pasted text box nothing happens, in other words I cannot highlight the text I want to change. I wish to do this because I have a layout with 90 trees on it and the cut and paste method is much faster than creating a completely new text box each time.

It has occurred to me that we may not be talking about the same thing so just to be sure, what I am referring to is a text entry on a layout page and when I click on the text, a series of handles appears around the text I click on (this is what i am calling the text box) - thus allowing me to move and change the appearance of the text but not allowing me to highlight the text and change letters (text).

I have used all types of these programs for years, most of them use similar protocols, not this one. NO decent user guide either. Your assistance is kindly appreciated.

I wasn’t trying to be flip but … In any case, I wanted to help. So,
give me a few minutes.

I wasn’t trying to be flip but … In any case, I wanted to help. So,
here we go.

words I cannot highlight the text I want to change. I wish to do
this because I have a layout with 90 trees on it and the cut and
paste method is much faster than creating a completely new text box
each time.

Here we go:

(1) I start Intaglio which gives me an untitled file
(2) I go Window > Tools (the pointer at the tool at the top is
highlighted) and is an arrow.
(3) in order to type, I either click on T at the bottom of the tool
palette, or I place the arrow where I want to insert the text and
double click. I type “tree one”
(4) I click on the arrow at the top of the tool palette and the tool
is n arrow and “tree one” is now a selected text box. (To make sure I
pushed the little arrow on the right to the left to wrap)
(5) Cmd C, click the arrow where you want to paste, Cmd V. I got a
copy of “tree one”
(6) Place the arrow cursor on top of “one”. Double click, the tool is
now an insertion tool, double click again, “one” is now selected
(7) Type “two” and you should now have “tree two”

It has occurred to me that we may not be talking about the same
thing so just to be sure, what I am referring to is a text entry on
a layout page and when I click on the text, a series of handles

To make sure, I started with (1) each time I did a new step.

Let me know how it went and, if not, how far it went.

Did you use the text cursor to select text?

nope…i used the black arrow at the top of the tool palette - i now find that is the wrong tool for this, never thought of using the T again (like i said the protocols are very different for this program than what i am used to), but that is the solution! thanks a million.

I just tried it:

(1) click anywhere in window to activate it
(2) click on text box to select it.
(3) click once more on text box, nothing happens
(4) but click twice and the text box disappears and the arrow turns
into an insertion pointer

On my machine, I cannot leave much time between the two clicks in (4)

The only other thing I can think of is for you to re-download Intaglio.

The double click is a shortcut for the insert text tool (See step (3)
in my initial list)

Notice in the preferences under Tools that there is an option to Double Click Graphics to either Open Inspector or Edit Text. Might check that.

Indeed, I took the double click for granted.
