editing graphics

Good evening - I am working on a site in FWP5 and I want to edit my main graphic into 4 pieces. To look at the graphic I want to break up you can see it on the main page of my original site http://www.grdesigns.net - the puzzle pieces.

I am looking for any suggestions on a program that I can do that in a relatively simple way.

Also, what would the alternative for flash be in FWP5? I have seen some strings regarding this - but my mind is drawing a blank .

Thank you in advance for your suggestions etc

I’ve not done it myself, but Image Maps are supported by FW according to the documentation. Page 147 of the document that shipped with my version of FWP5 discusses this.

Granted it doesn’t look like this would support mapping your puzzle pieces into exact pieces. But I think that trying to map the exact contour of each puzzle piece would yield a clicking hassle for the user. I would think that just dividing it up into four quadrants would suffice.

Ok,
I will look into that.
What I am trying to do is almost a "automatic / flash rollover without
the user needing to click = the pieces are apart then come together.
Is that a better explanation?

Hi Julie
you can make versions in Photoshop of each state that you want to be visible
to the visitor. Such that the puzzle piece appears to change colour or
others disappear as desired on click. The implementation would be probably
using image maps and the Target show hide image action.

But I could be wrong or unaware of other ways to do what you want.

hope this helps

Brian,

that is very similar - but I want to have it automatic so there is no
“click” at first , then it stops

So you would be content with a random display of images that seemed to
indicate the appearance or disappearance of one or more jigsaw pieces and
each piece doesn’t need to be a link or trigger?
Someone else can offer more if so.

You could use a random image action for this but why not just make an
animated gif that does it - though these may be switched off in browsers.

I’ve used random image on load or refresh but I’m pretty sure it can be
timed.

The clearer your question the quicker and clearer the answers.

There is a free freeway moment that might show you what you want if choosing
what is effectively a slide show:
put ’ freeway moments’ into iTunes store to find it

Scriptaculous Slide Show in Freeway 5 3:35 23/06/2008 Making a
slide show whose images cross fade is a no-nonsense affair with Freeway Pro.
This short tutorial shows you all you need to know to build a compelling
slide show in minutes!

I’ve never made an animated gif but there are possibly free or very cheap
apps that can enable this - others will chime in I trust
