Editing layers in a Carousel

I presume I might have missed some instructions on this, because I can’t find any other posts mentioning my difficulty.

So my dilemma is that, after I have made my carousel which is working perfectly, I need to add a photo to one of the panes which are underneath the front one. Is there any way to make the other panes disappear (wish I could do that with the alternate spelling of that word) so that I can see to work on, say, layer 4, without having to ungroup everything and slide them off to the side and then realign them all over again - surely I’ve missed the easy way somewhere?

The earliest versions of Carousel required this sort of construction, but that hasn’t been the way since 1.0. What version of the Action are you using?

Also, to reveal the elements of a group, click on the word Site at the top of the left-hand pane, so it becomes Page, and then look in the hierarchical list of elements this reveals for the name of the element you want to reveal. Click on its name, so it is highlighted in the list, then press the Return key to temporarily hide any layers above it and make it editable.

Thanks Walt, that was just the information I was needing, worked a charm - well, mostly. I’m getting some of the images & panels to work the way you described, but a couple of them, when I highlight and hit return, it displays a dialog box with options to locate, resample, update - but the image doesn’t pop up to the surface, it works that way if the item is a text container but not for a graphic.

Not sure what version I am using, how do I find that out?

Click on an element that has the Action applied, and look in the bottom-right corner of the Actions palette while the Action’s tab is selected. You should see a version number in gray there.

Also, the Return key trick won’t work for an ordinary image box, apparently. You’ll need to use the Inspector to make changes to that element while it is selected in the left-hand list.

Thanks Walter, glad to know it’s not my ineptitude with the app that’s causing the strange differences in behaviour. If it doesn’t work with ‘ordinary’ image boxes, what other kind of image boxes does it work with?

My version number appears to be 1.3.6

Anyway, I managed to get the image placed, thanks to your initial instructions - if only I will be able to remember them the next time I need to edit a layer
