EE Links

Hello,

I’m having problems getting to grips with the EE integration.

We have a page with a graphic area that links to another page. But it doesn’t link. I guess once again we or someone here has set something badly and the link will not form.

Using FW / EE Action Suite/ and EE Core (is Core the problem?)

http://www.ryedesign.co.uk - link is the grey box at the bottom of this simple page.

Where is the link supposed to go? If you were to hand code the link, what would it be? I think I’ve seen something similar before, but I’ll have to think about what the solution was.

EE and the Action are working together to generate what appears to be a legit link, so that end of it is okay.

The link looks good but is actually meant to link to a different page with totally different content.

Can you open the file http://www.ryedesign.co.uk/index.php/pages/untitled3/
or untitiled3.php ?

If you can get the file and open if in a browser you’ll see it is different.

When EE doesn’t recognize a link, but it otherwise appears legitimate, it usually (always) takes you back to the home page, the default page that you have set up in the EE Control Panel.

How did you create the link in FW?

Oops - I meant to write “(always?)” with a question mark in my previous message, as I’m not 100% sure of that.

In my experience, if it isn’t there, EE takes you back to the {site_url} which, as Joe said, is set as the default URL for the site. It may try and load the page and therefore cause the URL to change, but it’ll load the default page regardless.

In MAMP/localhost this link works.

So I guess either there’s something wrong with the upload or expression engine links?

Any chance this could be a host/server issue before we go any further?

So you’re saying that the same setup, pages, and link work locally?

Have you tried any other links?

Who is your host? Certain hosts are set up slightly differently and you’d need to tweak your EE configuration to get it to work there. I’m thinking Dreamhost and Bluehost, not 100% on that. Check the EE support site for info.

mmm, seams my host won’t do url segment support (not that i know what that is) on our package so I’m guessing that’s that…

looking at moving to engine hosting unless anyone has any good recommendations?

Take a look at the EE Support site and see if there is a workaround. If not, most hosts will work with EE without even trying.

Thanks for all your help guys.

It’s all starting to make sense!

Now looking at trying to work out how to get news headings that also appear on my index linkable to the story they come from. Any ideas?

You mean you have a list of articles generated on your index that you want to link to the article?

See the section on this page with the heading “Linking to the “Full” Entry.” They can explain it better than I can. You are looking to use the title_permalink, which is included as part of the EE Action Suite and should be mentioned in the documentation in there as well.

Thats it Joe.

Thanks I’ll take a look.

Can’t wait to show everyone what we are doing even if to prove we are actually doing something!

Cheers
