Email backgrounds

I am about to use the new eMail action. Has anyone found any problem using a tiled background to the page? If it fails to show in all email clients I will clearly have to watch my text colours. It would like to copy the background and look of this page http://www.barbaradelaruelle.com

Thanks Richard

Hi Richard,

Some email clients, particularly online ones such as Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo, may not display background images. The key thing to do is give the item or page a background color similar to the color in the image. You shouldn’t then have any contrast issues.

Thanks for the response Joe. I can see that fading backgrounds might best be avoided then. I understand that CSS is out as well as Java script and so on. But what about child items? Will these present a problem to certain email clients or should I work strictly with items directly on the page?

As long as you use table based items and not layers then you should be fine using child items. In fact, you should only use table based items anyway when creating email newsletters. We’ll try and get a KnowledgeBase article or tutorial up soon.

Thanks again Joe. Am testing all this at the moment - without layers. But with children. Google Mail and Yahoo both failed to show the fading background.

best wishes Richard
