Email list solutions?

Looking for a good email list solution for a small organization I am a
member of. One that works well both as email list and a message board
for archiving etc. Also need to be able to control access. For
instance, it would be useful with a list that would allow certain
members to post but NOT subscribe. (Sounds weird, I know. We are a
group of theater admins who want to be able to discuss and collaborate
on bookings. Therefore it would be useful if booking agents could post
messages without being able to read our internal discussions about
their offerings)

Oh, it should be free or close to it…

My guess is that google groups could do most of it, but I wanted to
ask this very competent group first. What powers Freeway Talk, btw?
Kind Regards,

I don’t know if it offers all the features you require but Dada Mail
is both free and reliable:
