Export as reduced-colour-BMP (indexed-BMP)

Hi,
how can I make a drawing to be exported as a reduced-colour-BMP?

I know how to export to BMP, but the resulting BMP has a RGB- of grayscale-colour-model which is incompatible with the software in which I have to input the black-and-white-BMP.

How can I convert or start making a drawing in a black-and-white-1-bit-environment?

As I understand it, 1-bit images contain one colour. There is no smoothing (anti-aliasing or degrees of greyscale), so when the image is enlarged, any curves are ‘stepped’. An Intaglio drawing can be Saved As a GIF which is a more common 1-bit format. Does the software understand GIF?

No, it has to be BMP.
But you ‘re right in the assumption that there may not be any greyscale, and everything is ‘stepped’, made up of white or black ‘rectangular’’ pixels.

Paul.
Can´t you just use at least GIMP (because it´s free) for a conversion? No other image editor at hand?

Yes, I’m doing it that way right now.
But I thought it was a bit silly having bought a softwareprogram, and then having to use a free one to ‘fill the gaps’.

But as I understand, this is a shortcoming of Intaglio?
Is there any evolution on intaglio? Any hopes this could be implemented in the future?

I would use the ImageMagic package instead of Gimp, you can script the
conversion procedure easily using bash or Automator.

As I understand, BMP is a Windows-specific format, it would be not so easy
to build-in the support of this format on MacOSX, some extra-code would be
needed from other projects having the different licensing policy.
