[Express] Archive? UPLOAD from laptop OR desktop

This is about the use of Archive across two computers of the same user (laptop and desktop) and being able to work in both and upload from either. Had help from Tech Support who suggests use of Drop Box (web based. After downloaded it, I do agree with the ‘agreement conditions’.

FW Reference book studied, and this ??? goes beyond it.
What about archiving to a Flash drive as the ‘holder’ or carrier of the archive; and it to each, then when the work on either is completed (updates, new pages, etc) the file is AGAIN archived and via the flash drive back to the other computer. I tried it with two computers that had not been synced and the upload from the laptop failed. So a clone of the desktop was made to the Laptop (the network id’s adjusted) and (using test sites) the upload from the laptop was as successful as the desktop). Next is the possible use of the Flash Drive, but I hesitate and ask it anyone sees a problem doing that. (I need to stand up more and use the laptop from a counter, instead of sitting at the desk for hours creating the web materials. And the desktop is much easier to use than the Laptop)

If the two computers are on the same network, you could use file sharing from the desktop and work on the document from your laptop. You simply connect to the desktop as a file server, locate the document on the desktop share, and open it directly from there. Assuming that you have a fairly modern WiFi setup, or even better, Ethernet, you will have nearly local-drive performance, and the file won’t ever have to move.

If you mean to work on the document from the “road”, and you won’t have a network connection, you can open the document before you leave, choose Save Archive from the FIle menu, and move that archive into your laptop’s disk. Work on the document while you’re away, and when you get back, copy the entire archive version back to the desktop. The idea with this approach is that you only have one “authoritative” version of the document, and since there’s only one of you working on it, you know where the latest version is at all times.

Where Freeway gets complicated is with multiple persons working on a single document at the same time. There’s no merge functionality, and you have to work out a strategy to “split” the document so that individuals can work on different portions of the final site. But from the sounds of things, that’s not your problem.

Thanks, Walter.
There is a local network with a ethernet wired router which FW senses (and will not start) if it is open on the other computer. I had not thought of working as you suggested. Much better.
Appreciate that greatly.
