Draw a graphic box, choose File / Import, and select the file. As long as it is a valid PNG, Freeway Express will happily place it within the box, and you will then be able to scale it, rotate it, etc.

Thanks Walter I tried that. I had changed the color from white to black as my background. So when I import my logo all I see is a big X the size of the graphic box. Is there another step I’m missing ?

It sounds like you are importing the image into an HTML box, or have checked the Pass-through checkbox in the Import dialog. If you try this again, starting from a new empty graphics box (gray border), you should get what you expect. Note that if you are trying to import a PNG containing transparency, you need to first make the image precisely the size you expect it to appear on your site (at 72ppi) and then import it as pass-through. But it sounds like you do want to scale the logo at this point.

Yea I want to scale it. But I’m going to try that thank you. How do you look for web browsers to download to test your web site like windows Firefox etc.?

There are paid services that allow you to remote-control a PC, but I just got Windows XP a few years ago and run it in VMWare on my Mac. Some day I will get a copy of Windows 7, and upgrade to that, but XP tells me more about the real hard-luck story of how bad things can get, so I keep it around for kicking purposes. Mostly, I just try to stay valid and code defensively (leave room to grow, or design a fully-inline layout that will simply grow as needed) rather than worrying about everything looking exactly the same. (That’s a short trip to madness, in my experience.)

By itself, with no other help, Freeway Pro or Express will make a very solid layout that can be seen by any browser. It does an extraordinary job of paving over the differences between individual versions of IE, and makes a simple and bulletproof layout. The differences between browsers will tend to be minor, and can be mitigated by adding a little extra space to the height of a text container, and in some cases by adding a parent element to wrap two separate HTML elements together. In Express, you do this by drawing an HTML box over the top of the two items, and then choosing Item / Send to back from the main menu. This creates a nested table structure in the page layout, which can overcome some issues with browser font size dragging elements out of place.

You can simulate this sort of breakage in your Safari browser by enabling the View / Zoom Text Only option, and then zooming up and down a few clicks. Notice what breaks, and add some extra space to it or re-align your layout. and test again

Try this again on a new blank page. Just draw one image box on the page, nothing else. Import the photo. It should just appear. Make sure when you do this that the Pass-through checkbox is not checked in the Import dialog.

Express does not have the CSS button. Freeway Pro 3 and later have it.

Yes. If you look in the Item / Graphic submenu, you’ll see a bunch of options. One thing to consider though is that Freeway’s scaling algorithm is optimized for speed over ultimate quality. Photoshop will do a much better job of resizing an image with a lot of flat color areas in it. Freeway will just do it automatically and quickly. Also, the output format you choose in the Output tab of the inspector (icon looks like a little newspaper) should be carefully considered. Most logos do not take well to JPEG compression – fonts and sharp edges end up blurry and distorted. This is true of any image editing application, not just Freeway.
