[Express] Can you for-see any problems for me

Hi

My first forum post as I need some advice and or comments.

I built and maintain an old photograph archive:

for my local community using ‘Myriad Galerie’. This site works well enough for our purposes, however Myriad have now stopped supporting/developing this software which means we are unable to update to mac OS Lion.

Having now purchased Freeway Express I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to have a quick look at the site and see if they can see any major problems I may encounter in trying to re-create a very similar looking site using Freeway.

After my initial viewing of the Freeway software I seem to have come across a couple of early queries

  1. Would I be advised to use ‘Showcase’ to generate the albums?

  2. Will there be any problem having just a reference number on the small thumbnails and then more caption information on the larger images (same as the present site).

  3. Will I be able to, perhaps, add some kind of rollover on the larger image to display a present day modern photograph of show the same scene?

  4. Because of its limitations would it be best to not use Showcase is this instance.

Obviously it is very early days in my Freeway Express experience so I really would appreciate any advise.

Hi Godfrey,

You have a couple of options really, each with it’s own pros and cons. The easiest method would be to use Showcase. It would be really quick and easy to implement but you won’t get any of the functionality you look for in points 2 and 3.

The other method would be to do the whole thing manually and have a separate page for each image (like you have now). This will give you total freedom over functionality including points 2 and 3. The downside is that it will be a lot of work and will give you hundreds of pages.

There’s also a third option which would be to upgrade to Pro. This will open up a whole host of other options including Show/Hide Layers and third party Actions like ScriptyLightbox2.

I hope this helps.

Hi Chris,

I very much appreciate you taking the time to pass on your comments about the best way of tackling the building of my site. This was just the kind of feedback I was hoping for.

A separate page for each image does seem rather daunting as I have approx 350 images on the site at the moment with as many new images waiting to be added. A site with 1,000 pages ? Perhaps not!!!

After reading your comments I am thinking that perhaps I would be better off upgrading to Pro and utilising the extra functionality that would give me.

Regard,

Godfreys
